Expose Your City

Eric Roseman

Working in real estate technology, I hear wonderful and heartwarming stories of how real estate projects will transform entire communities and cities. I learn about the master plan developers creating entirely new neighborhoods. I learn about opportunistic real estate developers who are building to catch some of the incoming or already overflowing demand of a certain neighborhood. I learn about cultural real estate pioneers who are buying up old historic properties and revitalizing them to their original beauty and allure. It's without fail that no two stories will be the exact same as the fabric of the neighborhoods and regions change. In all cases, selling the vision is one of the hardest objectives that developers have to do in their process. Amongst my travels in this fascinating realm of city building and cultural progression, I've come across a number of unique and emotionally compelling videos that help spell out the fabric of the city.

I want to share a few videos that have been effective in crafting the stories of their city's beauty and allure.

A Portland Journey

Portland is one of the hottest destinations for population and cultural growth right now. The eclectic nature and endorsement of the "weird" resonates strongly with the younger generation and in turn is experiencing an economic and cultural boom. With that explosion comes opportunity for the real estate community. This video is a great exploration of Portland's upbringing  and how it's changed over the years, while maintaining it's historical roots.

The same production studio produced this charming piece on Newport, Oregon. If this doesn't make you want to hop on a plane and head to small coastal town Newport, I don't know what would!

Detroit - Bed Rock Real Estate

One of the best things a real estate developer can portray is their understanding of the community in which they operate. Bedrock Real Estate, a privately owned real estate development firm by Dan Gilbert (founder of Quicken Loans) is the dominant force in the revitalization effort of Detroit, Michigan. With hundreds of millions of dollars in real estate assets and construction rehab projects in their portfolio, they wear the pride of Detroit's come back on its sleeve. Bedrock produced this incredible video, Anthem of Us, to help visually explain the fabric of Detroit. This video does a wonderful job showcasing the diversity, the eclecticism, the entrepreneurialism and the natural beauty of this once thriving automotive city.

I'd love to know what other videos you think help capture the beauty and uniqueness of your city.
